The Academy of the Arts is a non-profit music school.  Our President, Dr. L. Scott Martin, is considered the best voice teacher in the state of Colorado.  He is beloved by all his staff and students, as Dr. Martin doesn't just teach voice, he inspires hearts and sows love and life into everyone who walks in his door for a lesson.  Students consider Dr. Martin not only to be their voice teacher, but also a dear friend and mentor, having deep inpact on the lives of everyone he teaches.
 
In early May of this year, 2008, Dr. Martin was diagnosed with extremely aggressive tongue cancer, and underwent emergency surgery to remove one third of his tongue.  Shortly there after he had all of his teeth removed.  He went through radiation treatments for his tongue and throat, which killed all of his taste buds and made swallowing almost impossible. 
 
He is recovering very well and has adapted quickly, considering he is a voice teacher with a disability and is still waiting for the all clear before he can get his dentures.  He is a walking miracle and is back teaching again!
 
As a result of Dr. Martin's illness, the Academy has been adversely affected the Academy and Dr. Martin financially.  The Academy is currently asking for donations which will go towards things like rent, utilities, new teeth, etc.
